Like the one I am painfully going through now. I am watching COPS. And I can not stop.

Facebook - challenges & opportunities

August 22nd, 2007

Facebook has gotten tons of attention in Sweden recently, and the effects have been the expected. Growth in the Swedish network has grown exponentially, invitations are flying left and right, and the buzz is close to annoyingly loud.  Most of the mass media attention has been negative. The point made has been that Facebook “steals” productive time from the employer. This argument is so hollow that I will not give it any attention.

That being said, I am also critical of Facebook. But of something completely different: capacity issues. It is to me an absolute crime that it is allowed to lag as much as it does. To me, the USP of the Facebook system is the quickness with which transparency into friends lives is offered. With several hours of lag, the system loses its charm.

More randomness

August 21st, 2007
  • I have repeatedly tried to connect with a person I knew during grade school. I have tried through Facebook, Linked In & email, and been repeatedly ignored. It is overwhelmingly odd to me. I feel like I am in the middle of a Seinfeld episode.
  • We got an eye tracking hardware & software tool at work today. It is absolutely fascinating.
  • My daughter sleeps 8-12 hours per night in her own bed, and laughs and smiles all day. If she cries, food solves everything. And I thought having kids was tough…
  • My mother was in town this past weekend. When she traveled home, she got stuck in Boston. She called me and asked me to check flights out with the American Airlines system. The system suggested the route Boston - Seattle - Miami - Dallas.
  • Facebook is addictive. I know. But I can not agree with the negative press it is getting here in Sweden. The argument is that Facebook steals productive time from the employer. I feel that they are missing the point: if Facebook is used as an intra-company networking tool, the long term positive effects are much more valuable.

Combining two greath things and making an impact

August 20th, 2007

It is with immense pleasure and pride that I introduce you to my newest venture. Together with my good friend Steve Persson, I have created an organization which combines two of the greatest things around: golf and mother nature. We have done this by creating a golf club where a majority of the membership fee directly goes towards  directly improving our surroundings. In addition, we have been able to associate with some of Sweden’s premier golf courses to reduce our members’ green fee cost.

We call this wonder Svensk Miljögolf, and I invite you to check it out. Only in Swedish so far, be warned!

The idea and concept have shown great promise. We will shortly be covered in a major golfing publication, as well as associated with and prime partner of, a great social golf tournament. All will be disclosed in due time!

iPhone love - it is funny because it is true

August 16th, 2007

I am loving every moment of this evening. I have my hands on an iPhone. It is nothing short of amazing. Everything negative I have ever said of this gorgeous piece of engineering I take back.

The smile here is nowhere close to relaying how fun this is. All I can say is this: get one.
